Participant, 2012 NSF-CMACS Workshop on Cellular Signaling Pathways (NYC, Jan – Feb 2012)
Developed models of cell signalling pathways in cancer and simulated them using BioNetGen. Developed automation tool for BioNetGen simulations that was accepted into the BioNetGen project. I continue to contribute to the development of next generation simulation automation tools in BioNetGen.
Participant, Google Summer of Code/NESCent (NYC, Jun – Sept 2011)
Our goal was to improve the situation in data interoperability between GTR (gene tree reconciliation) mapping software using open source implementations of modern standards. Based on conversations with experts in phylogenetic data standards, our team defined a way in which XML could be used along with standard open source software libraries to store and transmit GTR maps.

Contractor, Rapid Waters Development (San Francisco, CA, Oct 2009 – Mar 1 2010)
Worked on variety of sites for this Drupal consultancy until company was acquired by Lullabot, the leading provider of Drupal services. Development and system administration.

Maintained, designed, and built sites on Drupal for outreach campaigns including dunkincruelty.com. Managed web and LAN infrastructure. Supported day to day IT including email, VPN, file servers.
Founder and CEO, Sustain Computing, Inc. (San Francisco, CA, Jun 2008 – Jun 2009)
Envisioned and founded environmentally friendly PC company to provide efficient, sustainable consumer and business class hardware and IT strategies. Introduced company with a booth at LinuxWorld Expo 2008, where there was significant enterprise interest. Developed business plan, established management team, set up operations. Company closed doors after an unsuccessful venture funding search.

Established and managed full service software and IT consultancy in NYC. Phased in new functionality for a healthcare website. Developed and launched WomenKind Network www.womenkindnetwork.com, which led to the client receiving seed funding. Worked with a justice focused nonprofit to analyze correctional data. Worked with media oriented nonprofit to migrate their web servers to newer software and choose a new platform for several web properties. Assisted an international trade nonprofit in maintaining industry directory services online. Ceased operations upon moving out of state.
Consultant, New York Magazine (NYC, Mar 2005 – Sep 2006)
Designed and implemented core module of the content management system for www.nymag.com. Contributed new features to open source Krang CMS. Extended classifieds listings with new features.
Consultant, WPP Group (NYC, Jun 2005 – Oct 2006)
Ongoing management of 70,000 user mission critical intranet for multinational marketing organization. Identified the need for a more reliable and manageable knowledge management system, and designed and implemented it, realizing a quarter million dollars in cost savings, and increased productivity and autonomy for several departments. Assisted in platform migration for intranet technology migration.
Infrastructure Manager, WPP Group (NYC, May 2002 – May 2005)
Worked with CTO to coordinate IT initiatives across seventy subsidiaries. Oversaw 24/7 operations of 70,000 user mission critical intranet with dozens of applications on a variety of platforms. Managed local and external technical staff around the globe. Developed IT disaster recovery plans and network monitoring platform that was deployed internationally. Assisted in design of single sign-on system.
Software Engineer, Vanguard Media (NYC, Aug 2001 – Apr 2002)
Developed online version of popular Page-A-Day calendars for www.pageaday.com. This system scaled to hundreds of thousands of user within one week. Developed search engine and bilingual site for Asia Society (www.asiasociety.org). Developed new features for WPP Group’s internal auction system. Company ceased operations and I was hired by client, WPP Group.
Consultant, Alan Lomax Archive (NYC, Mar – Aug 2001)
Worked with resident archivists at the world’s largest folk music archive to build a searchable catalogue of field recordings for use by the general public.

Developed e-mail alert system for new author releases for www.harpercollins.com.
Software Engineer, Me.net (NYC, Jul 2000 – Feb 2001)
Worked in several roles at this early internet telephony company. Designed a replacement content management and news feed system that increased uptime and saved in licensing costs. Built IVR functions into telephony platform. Increased email platform scalability to support millions of users by implementing LDAP directories on network attached storage. Implemented WAP cell phone compatible version of the main website, www.me.net. Employed there until the company closed.
Consultant, Deutsche Bank (NYC, Jan – Jun 2000)
Worked to improve technology at the program trading desk, with the world’s largest volume. Developed network monitoring app for mission critical servers and workstations. Developed auditing system to automatically send “program trading” activity data to NYSE for “DPTR” compliance. Authored web app to analyze “OATS” rejection reports from NASDR and display statistical analysis. Compiled, patched and tested new versions of core application suite.

Developed web app for realtime portfolio information delivery to replace static system. Automated fie management and logging. Built and documented protocol and data-translation layers to support exchange of positions tracking information between trading and reporting.
